The WDC has had many successes since it was set up in 1997:

Strategy development

The WDC has developed strategies in a number of areas where the Western Region has a particular advantage – rural tourism, organic agri-food production and renewable energy. One example is WDC’s facilitation of the Western Organic Strategic Initiative – bringing together a dynamic network of groups to conduct research on developing the organic food market, hand in hand with a training and advisory programme and a website for trading and information dissemination.

Tá ag éirí go hiontach ag CFI ó bunaíodh é sa bhliain 1997 ar aghaidh:

Forbairt straitéiseach

Tá straitéisí curtha ar bun ag CFI i roinnt earnálacha, a bhfuil buntáiste áirithe ag baint leo i Réigiún an Iarthair – turasóireacht tuaithe, táirgeadh agraibhia orgánaigh agus fuinneamh in-athnuaite. Sampla amháin is ea an obair a rinne CFI chun Tionscnamh Orgánach Straitéiseach an Iarthair a éascú – a thugann líonra dinimiciúil grúpaí le chéile chun taighde a dhéanamh ar an margadh bia orgánaigh a fhorbairt, chomh maith le clár oiliúna agus comhairliúcháin agus láithreán gréasáin chun trádáil a dhéanamh agus chun eolas a scaipeadh.

Advice to government

Much of WDC’s policy work focuses on infrastructure – roads, telecommunications, energy, air and rail. This has ensured that clear recommendations can be made to government on cost-effective solutions that address the growing gap between the Western Region and the rest of the country.

Comhairle don rialtas

Tá mórán den obair bheartais ag CFI dírithe ar an mbonneagar – bóithre, teileachumarsáid, fuinneamh, aerthaisteal agus an iarnród. Cinntíonn sé seo gur féidir moltaí soiléire a chur faoi bhráid an rialtais faoi réitigh chostéifeachtacha a dhíríonn ar an bearna, atá ag leathnú, idir Réigiún an Iarthair agus an chuid eile den tír.

Research and publications

The WDC has been at the forefront of supporting and carrying out research in the Western Region and publishes its wide range of research in both print and online format.
You can view a full list of WDC publications here.

Taighde agus foilseacháin

Tá CFI ar thús cadhnaíochta sa taighde a dhéantar i Réigiún an Iarthair agus sa tacaíocht a thugtar dó agus foilsíonn sé an raon leathan taighde aige i bhformáid priontála agus ar líne.
Is féidir leat amharc ar liosta iomlán foilseachán CFI anseo.

LookWest.ie

Chun cur leis an obair á dhéanamh ag an bhfeachtas LookWest.ie, thug CFI tacaíocht forbartha:

  • Don láithreán gréasáin www.lookwest.ie
  • Don MHÓRTHAISPEÁNTAS LookWest.ie  (2006-08).
  • Don bhunachar sonraí agus do chlárú réigiúnach (2007-2009) LookWest.ie a chuimsíonn an tEolaí Réigiúnach Gnó agus an Clár Scileanna agus Fiontraíochta.

Renewable energy – wood

Fuinneamh in-athnuaite – adhmad

Renewable energy – wind

WDC has produced two practical guides for communities interested in becoming involved in a wind energy project:

Fuinneamh in-athnuaite – gaoth

Tá dhá eolaí praiticiúil curtha amach ag CFI do phobail ar mhaith leo páirt a ghlacadh i dtionscadal fuinnimh ghaoithe:

Creative sector

WDC research has estimated that the creative sector makes up 4,800 businesses in the region employing 11,000 people and worth €534 million per annum. A follow-up Creative West development programme aims to stimulate growth in the regional creative economy and involves the WDC working with national partners and an industry advisory group. The Creative West Report is available to download here.

An earnáil chruthaitheach

De réir taighde CFI, tá 4,800 gnóthas san earnáil chruthaitheach sa réigiún, le 11,000 duine ag obair iontu agus luach €534 mhilliún orthu in aghaidh na bliana. Tá sé mar chuspóir ag an gclár leantach forbartha Iarthar Cruthaitheach forás a spreagadh sa gheilleagar réigiúnach cruthaitheach, agus CFI ag obair le comhpháirtithe náisiúnta agus le grúpa comhairleach ar thionsclaíocht sa chlár seo. Is féidir The Creative West Report / An Tuarascáil Iarthar Cruthaitheach a íoslódáil anseo.

Rural tourism

The Western Development Tourism Programme (WDTP) is a pilot programme to test innovative rural tourism projects. This has initiated The Green Box – Ireland’s first integrated ecotourism destination; Tourism Tastes Trails and Walking in the West.

Turasóireacht tuaithe

Is clár trialach é Clár Forbartha Thurasóireacht an Iarthair (CFTI) chun scrúdú a dhéanamh ar thionscadail nuálaíochta maidir le turasóireacht tuaithe. Chuir sé seo tús le The Green Box – an chéad cheannscríbe comhtháite in Éirinn ó thaobh na héiceathurasóireachta de; Rianta Blasanna Turasóireachta agus Ag Siúl san Iarthar.

Organic agri-food sector

The WDC’s work with a group of producers of organic agri-food has allowed the implementation of innovative development initiatives by accessing training, product and market development. Much of the strategic work involved is now mainstreamed through the National Organic Steering Committee.

An earnáil agraibhia orgánaigh

D’oibrigh CFI le grúpa táirgeoirí agraibhia orgánaigh agus, mar thoradh ar seo, bhíothas in ann tionscnaimh nuálaíochta forbartha a chur chun feidhme trí rochtain ar an oiliúint, ar fhorbairt táirgí agus ar fhorbairt margaidh. Déantar mórchuid den obair straitéiseach a phríomhshruthú anois tríd an Coiste Náisiúnta Stiúrtha Orgánach.
