Minister Alan Kelly visits Western Development Commission

Minister Alan Kelly with special responsibility for sustainable transport in the Department of transport paid a courtesy visit to the Western Development Commission (WDC) on Wednesday June 12th accompanied by local senator John Kelly.

The Minister met with Ray McGreal , Chief Executive Officer and Deirdre Frost Policy Analyst and he outlined the departments priorities with particular emphasis on sustainable transport . Mr McGreal stressed the need for better connectivity to the west to ensure business can compete effectively and support jobs and growth in the region.

Minister Kelly thanked the WDC for their work and welcomed their support in making the case for growing jobs and enterprise in the western region.

The Western Development Commission is a statutory body set up to promote the social and economic development of the Western Region, (counties Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo, Galway and Clare.)  The WDC promotes the development of both regional and larger multinational European projects that will benefit companies in the west of Ireland.  The commission supports enterprise financially, actively attracts enterprise and people to the west and influences government policy with targeted relevant research.
