WDC-AIRO Mapping Tool

Welcome to the WDC-AIRO Mapping Tool.

The WDC has worked with the All Island Research Observatory (AIRO) to develop this WDC-AIRO Interactive Mapping Module.  It will help in showing the dynamics of local areas and counties in the Western Region.  Planners, policy makers, researchers and anyone interested in understanding regional economic and social activity should find it useful.

The WDC-AIRO Mapping Tool allows you to map Census of Population data in detail i.e. at Electoral Division (ED) level, for the seven county Western Region.  It can show the spatial patterns for 2002, 2006 and 2011 (as Census 2011 data are made available) for various themes including:

  • Population
  • Age
  • Nationality
  • Employment
  • Education Levels
  • Transport
  • Housing
  • Disability

For example this map shows the percentage change in population in the Western Region from 2006 to 2011.

This shows the percentage of the population in 2006 aged over 65 years.

The WDC-AIRO Mapping Tool also allows you to ‘zoom in’ to your area of interest.  This map shows the percentage of people working in manufacturing in 2006 in an area of county Sligo.
