Brivant Medical was incorporated in late 2000 and received early stage investment from the WDC in 2004. The company, which specialises in guide wires for minimally invasive cardiac procedures, used its engineering expertise to resolve the issue of guide wire inflexibility. In 2009, Brivant Medical was acquired by Lake Region Medical Limited (a subsidiary of Minnesota-based Lake Region Medical) and the WDC exited its investment in the company. Lake Region is headquarted in Chaska, Minnesota and has had its subsidiary in New Ross, Co. Wexford since 1994. Lake Region, on purchasing Brivant Medical, noted the performance and capability of the team involved at all levels of the organisation. This merger sees 800 people employed across the Wexford and Galway bases, and the company hopes to create more jobs in the coming years.
