FMC-Tech, based in Shannon, Co. Clare was supported by the WDC from seed stage. The company, which developed an intelligent network monitoring system for the utilities network, was acquired by GE in July 2011. Following the acquisition, GE has developed and launched the MultilinTM Intelligent Line Monitoring System solution. This system uses the technology developed by FMC-Tech to enable utility companies to improve the reliability and efficiency of their electricity distribution networks. The system consists of a combination of sensors mounted on power lines delivering information from remote areas of the network back into a central location. The gathered data includes line load and conductor temperature, enabling utilities to maximise network throughput, reduce outage duration and optimise maintenance activities. The FMC-Tech business, with its staff of development engineers and software specialists, is now an integral part of GE’s Grid Automation strategy and continues its development from GE’s base in Shannon.
