Creative Industries Micro-Loan Fund

The WDC’s Creative Industries Micro-Loan Fund is an “Access to Finance” initiative developed on a pilot basis that is now mainstreamed.
Due to the success of the pilot, the fund has been established on a permanent basis.  It is open to sole traders, partnerships, businesses, co-operatives and groups operating in the creative industries sector, and provides loan finance ranging from €5,000 to €25,000.

The term of these loans ranges from one to five years with an interest rate of the prevailing EU Reference Rate for Ireland plus 650 basis points (6.5%).  Repayments are made on an amortised basis by monthly direct debit.

The following 12 creative industries make up the creative sector.  Businesses from these sectors are eligible to apply: –

  • Advertising
  • Architecture
  • Art/Antiques Trade
  • Crafts
  • Design
  • Digital Media
  • Fashion
  • Internet and Software
  • Music, Visual and Performing Arts

Assessment criteria

Our key criterion for assessing whether a creative industries enterprise will be eligible for funding under the Creative Industries Micro-Loan Fund is its repayment capacity.

We would also be looking for a strong promoter with a proven track record and relevant skills to make the venture a success.

The WDC does not re-finance existing loans; loans are for new activity.

WDC Loan Interest Rates

Current EU Reference rate for Ireland: -0.15%*

Interest rates are variable and are reviewed on an annual basis.

* It is WDC policy to use a base interest rate of zero, to which will be added the appropriate margin, when the EU reference rate for Ireland is negative.

Application procedure

If you wish to apply, then you should first of all assess your project against the criteria outlined above.
